What is a Scale and Clean?

What is the procedure for a scale and clean?
Your dentist will use an ultrasonic device around your gum line which vibrates and loosens any large areas of calculus. Water is sprayed over the area to wash away any debris.
Your Dentist  works around each tooth with a pick and scaler tool to scrape away any remaining calculus deposits and smooth the surface of your teeth.
For small areas of decay or heavy staining, air abrasion (a jet of compressed air) may be used.
Your teeth will then be given a good polish.
If you have generally healthy teeth and gums it shouldn’t be painful. If you have sensitive gums a local anaesthetic can be administered to make the procedure more comfortable.
